Introduction

Imatikast (Imatinib) is a type of drug used to treat cancers relating to white blood cells, red blood cells, and a few other types of cancers. This is also used in treating dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, a type of tumor grown in the parts of the body where it can’t be surgically removed. Imatikast (Imatinib) belongs to the class of medicines known as kinase inhibitors. It works by preventing any unnecessary action done by the abnormal protein that signals the cells to multiply, which plays a significant part in stopping the spread of cancer cells.

Tablet effects

The tablets should be taken after food, and it is recommended to take the medication at the same time every day to increase the tablets’ effectiveness. The patient should continue taking the medication until the doctor tells you to stop. Taking these tablets can cause side effects such as vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, water swelling, and water retention. Intake of a missed pill as quickly as you realize is essential; taking only one dose per day is recommended. Taking a double dose may cause some severe side effects to the human body. If you suspect you have taken an overdose of the medicine, you should contact your doctor immediately.

People who should avoid

There are some warnings for certain types of people who are taking this medicine. For all the following cases, the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved: Pregnant women and elderly people. Also, people with medical conditions such as gastrointestinal disorder, hypothyroidism, heart and blood vessel disorder, growth retardation, and hemorrhage should consult with their doctor before starting the medication. People taking other medications are also recommended to take this medication only after consultation with your doctor.
